The Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL) hosts legal interns during academic years and summer months. For Winter/Spring 2027, the internship is expected to be primarily hybrid, combining remote and in-person work. CDEL provides training and supervision. Applicants should generally be second- or third-year law students, though outstanding first-year law students may occasionally be considered. Interns manage extensive cases and a client caseload under supervision, with substantial interaction with candidates and clients. They participate in all aspects of client files, including screening, intake, document review, and direct representation. Interns may also participate in CDEL community clinics, workshops, and help desks. The internship offers experience in estate planning, adult guardianship, housing, consumer debt and collections, and family law, along with opportunities to interview candidates for service, draft legal documents, provide direct legal assistance, and participate in litigation, all under supervision where stated. The internship is unpaid. CDEL works with law schools that offer externship credit, and funding options may be available through law schools or outside agencies. CDEL will work with students and their advisors to establish the internship. Applications are considered as received. CDEL is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from people in underrepresented and marginalized communities. Applicants interested in elder law, disability law, estate planning, housing law, or public interest are especially encouraged to apply. Bilingual or multilingual applicants are also strongly encouraged to apply.
