About The Position

The Legal Extern (“Extern”) will assist the McAfee Legal team on a part-time basis during the upcoming academic school semester (Fall 2026) by providing legal and compliance support to the company. The Extern will perform this work by assisting company lawyers in a range of legal matters, to include regulatory compliance, corporate, product, employment, litigation, ethics & compliance and transactional matters. This Externship is designed to provide the Extern with hands-on training in a real-world environment of an in-house legal department. Assignments will vary and may include researching and drafting legal recommendations and advice; reviewing agreements, contracts, and other legal documents; and preparing for and attending company and/or legal team meetings. This Extern role will work approximately 10 hours per week with all work being performed remotely. This is a remote position; however you may be offered the opportunity to come onsite at our Frisco, TX office on an as-needed basis. We will only consider candidates who are a commutable distance to Frisco or Dallas and are not offering relocation assistance.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a FT, third year law student at an ABA accredited US-based law school during Fall 2026 semester
  • If seeking course credit, must be enrolled in an ABA accredited law school internship/externship or clinical program during Fall 2026 semester and available to work September through November 2026
  • Must be willing to work part-time during the school semester
  • Excellent research skills, including conducting internet and legal database research
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong attention to detail, grammar, and tone
  • Ability and initiative to see projects through to completion
  • Excellent project management, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Strong collaboration and communication abilities and problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive and to be self-sufficient
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, flexible work environment
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Team player with a can-do attitude toward finding business-oriented solutions that balance compliance requirements

Responsibilities

  • Research, draft, review, and propose revisions to various contractual documents, including policies, contracts, litigation pleadings or advice memoranda
  • Support company Legal team members on projects, business initiatives, and partnership opportunities as it pertains to legal compliance and corporate governance matters
  • Conduct legal and policy research and / or drafting
  • Research prospects for or defense of new or threatened litigation, including both factual and legal claims
  • Other legal- or ethics & compliance-related projects as assigned
