About The Position

The Extern supports the U.S. Legal and Compliance Department for Vestas, the major global provider of wind energy solutions. Responsibilities include: researching a wide variety of interesting legal issues; drafting memoranda and other documents; participating in meetings with department personnel, other company personnel, and customers where appropriate; and providing other support as necessary. This is a great opportunity for law students interested in working for a global company in the renewable energy business, with an interest in general corporate, commercial, and employment law. This is an unpaid position and requires enrollment in the externship program of the University of Oregon School of Law, Willamette Law School, or Lewis & Clark Law School for academic credit.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in an accredited law school and participation in that law school's externship program.
  • Great organization skills, responsiveness, high attention to detail, and a leader mentality.
  • Ability to operate in a busy and demanding work environment.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and apply legal principles, facts and precedents.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in general corporate, commercial, and employment law.

Responsibilities

  • Research a wide variety of issues relevant to an international company.
  • Effectively communicate in writing and orally to legal team members and other company employees at various levels.
  • Review and analyze complex agreements.
  • Assist with drafting documents where appropriate.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Work closely and effectively with General Counsel, other company legal personnel, and employees of all levels and cultures within a global organization.
  • Exhibit good judgment and practical skills.
  • Perform other activities as required.
  • Abide by the policies, procedures, and deadlines set forth in the applicable law school's externship program.
