About The Position

Earthjustice's Sustainable Food & Farming Program is seeking law students for a Spring 2027 legal externship. This externship is designed for students passionate about environmental justice and a healthy food system. The program focuses on litigation and advocacy to reduce pollution from industrial agriculture and promote a climate-friendly food system. Externs will work on cases with regional and national scope, addressing issues such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and mitigating pollution from industrial farming operations. Earthjustice is committed to diversity, inclusion, and partnership in its work.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in law school as a 2L or 3L during spring 2027.
  • Eligible to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement through this externship.
  • Excellent writing, research, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools, including Westlaw.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and ability to think creatively.
  • Ability to work collegially with others and independently.
  • Interest in public interest law and social justice.
  • Commitment to at least 12 hours per week for 12-16 weeks.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of environmental and administrative law.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research under the supervision of an attorney.
  • Draft legal memoranda on topics including environmental and administrative law.
  • Attend team meetings to discuss case developments and other program-related topics, if schedules permit.
