About The Position

Rogers Communications Inc. is Canada’s national communications company, engaged in three primary lines of business – wireless, cable and media. The legal department, which comprises more than 70 legal professionals, advises on the most challenging and important issues facing the telecommunications and media industries in Canada. Supporting Rogers’ various business units, you will be responsible for providing legal and strategic support to Rogers in the Province of Québec. This will principally involve: supporting Rogers Business Quebec team’s sale of products and services to enterprise customers; assisting Rogers’ Québec network and real estate teams with lease disputes, relocation and expropriation matters; and providing legal advice on Québec laws and regulations, particularly in the areas of consumer protection, privacy, and language laws; and supporting external counsel on Québec litigation matters. The successful candidate will not necessarily have experience in all of these areas but must have a demonstrated skillset in some and an ability to learn and grow into the role. This position is based in Rogers’ downtown Montreal office. The successful candidate must be a member of the Barreau du Québec and have: a minimum of 3-6 years of corporate/commercial experience gained from a major law firm or company; bilingual (French and English) to collaborate with colleagues on a national scale, including the ability to review and draft legal documents in French; strong written and oral communication skills; experience acquired in the telecommunications industry is an asset; experience with technology, leasing, expropriation, rights of way, IRUs, and municipal access agreements is an asset; experience managing commercial litigation files is an asset; experience with Québec consumer protection, privacy, and language laws is an asset; an ability to distill complex legal issues into clear decisions and advise internal stakeholders accordingly; strong work ethic with the ability to multitask and prioritize requests in a fast-paced environment; a strong sense of organization with a keen attention to detail and accuracy is an asset; business acumen; strong interpersonal skills and be a team player. The position requires the ability to both assist working-level teams and advise senior executives on strategic initiatives. Requirements

  • Member of the Barreau du Québec.
  • A minimum of 3-6 years of corporate/commercial experience gained from a major law firm or company.
  • Bilingual (French and English) to collaborate with colleagues on a national scale, including the ability to review and draft legal documents in French.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • An ability to distill complex legal issues into clear decisions and advise internal stakeholders accordingly.
