About The Position

Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM), a nonprofit law firm, is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant for its Lansing office, which serves Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee, and Livingston Counties. LSSCM provides civil legal assistance to low-income residents, with an emphasis on homelessness prevention, domestic violence and elder abuse prevention, and assistance in accessing health care, food, and needs-based income programs. LSSCM is a program of Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP), which manages six statewide programs serving immigrant communities, vulnerable older adults, victims of domestic violence and elder abuse, providing access to legal information, and offering case support and training for legal services providers in Michigan. MAP has a staff of about 250 people across multiple offices.

Requirements

  • Comfortable with and skilled at communicating with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Strong computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing clients
  • Reception duties, including greeting visitors and covering all incoming calls to the main office line
  • Client database management
  • General clerical work
  • Administrative support of the legal work of the office
