About The Position

The Williamsburg office of Kaufman & Canoles seeks a qualified Legal Assistant to provide secretarial support. This role involves preparing routine correspondence, estate planning binders, reports, and other documents. The Legal Assistant will interact with clients and court personnel in person, via telephone, and email, as well as arrange and schedule appointments, client meetings, and conference calls. Key responsibilities also include maintaining files, sub-files, and calendars, arranging for the signing of tax returns, inputting timekeeper data, reviewing and sorting mail, and performing various other administrative tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant work experience as a legal assistant in a professional office setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2016, time and billing software, dictation/transcription software, and document management software.
  • Typing at a level of 60 WPM.
  • Operational knowledge of standard office equipment including copier, scanner, and telephone.
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal terminology.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven meticulous attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of client service and response.
  • Expert level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, attorneys, co-workers, and other outside professionals.
