This position is funded to begin 10/01/2026. Reporting directly to a Division Chief, this role is responsible for providing advanced legal assistance to assigned legal staff and acts as a liaison between attorneys, courts, witnesses, law enforcement agencies, other agencies, and the public. The Legal Assistant assists legal staff by drafting all necessary legal documents. The Mental Health Assignment involves working closely with the Local Mental Health Authority, social/case workers, local/state hospitals, and the Health and Human Services Commission. This includes obtaining updated medical records, coordinating with out-of-county hospitals, serving as the first point of contact for involuntary commitment applications, and obtaining necessary paperwork. The position also receives and uploads waivers from court-appointed attorneys and communicates regularly with mental health hospitals regarding patient status.
