The Delaware Department of Justice, Criminal Division, seeks a Legal Assistant (Paralegal) to support Deputy Attorneys General in the Felony Trial Unit in New Castle County. General Legal Assistant duties include, but are not limited to, conducting intakes with police officers; researching, preparing, and processing legal documents such as discovery, subpoenas, and motions; compiling, organizing, and tracking evidence for case reviews; redacting police reports and medical records; preparing cases for grand jury and trial; and managing a high volume of felony case files and maintaining case management databases. The Legal Assistant is also responsible for assisting Deputy Attorneys General in trial preparation, including victim and witness contact, scheduling interviews, obtaining reports, outstanding evidence, and other information requested from police agencies, as well as gathering and tracking statistical information related to cases. There is frequent interaction with police agencies, witnesses, and victims while supporting Deputy Attorneys General throughout the litigation process. The ideal candidate must be capable of working independently and efficiently in a high-paced work environment while also functioning as a strong team player. The position requires someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
