Requirements

  • Diploma in Legal Assistant/Paralegal or an equivalent level of experience.
  • Direct experience in a Family Law practice supporting a Lawyer or Partner considered a strong asset.
  • Good working knowledge of Family Law procedures, court rules, and relevant documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a client-focused and empathetic approach.
  • Detail oriented, able to anticipate needs and take initiative, while being a team player with a positive attitude excited to contribute to a collaborative culture.
  • Comfortable using Outlook, Microsoft Office, and legal/document management systems, with the ability to learn new tools quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting a Partner with the day-to-day management of their practice, ensuring files move forward efficiently and deadlines are met.
  • Drafting, proofreading, and filing legal documents, including affidavits, court forms, correspondence, and financial disclosures.
  • Managing client files from open to close, maintaining accuracy, organization, and compliance with family law procedures.
  • Coordinating schedules, including client meetings, mediations, court appearances, and key deadlines.
  • Acting as a primary point of contact for clients, providing updates with professionalism, empathy, and discretion.
  • Preparing and revising pre-bills in accordance with lawyer direction and supporting file-related financial processes.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing communications, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Collaborating with team members to provide coverage and support across the Family Law practice.
