About The Position

FAIRWINDS Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Legal and Compliance Specialist to join their Risk Management team. This role will support the Credit Union's legal and compliance functions by ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, managing legal documentation processes, and assisting with compliance programs that protect members and the organization. The ideal candidate will enjoy navigating complex regulations, collaborating with business partners, and fostering a culture of compliance.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited college, technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in compliance, legal support, risk management, financial services, banking, credit unions, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles and legal documentation processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the timely processing of writs, garnishments, levies, account freezes, and related legal requests.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation within the Credit Union's record retention systems.
  • Review and assist with the processing of legal documents, including powers of attorney, trusts, guardianships, estate documentation, and specialty account requests.
  • Serve as a resource to crewmembers regarding legal documentation and related member account matters.
  • Support preparation for regulatory examinations, audits, and annual legal reviews.
  • Monitor changes to applicable laws, regulations, and industry guidance impacting Credit Union operations.
  • Assist with the development, revision, and communication of compliance policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Support compliance programs, including training initiatives, testing activities, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Conduct compliance-related research and assist with policy and procedure updates.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to provide guidance on regulatory requirements and compliance-related matters.
  • Assist with vendor due diligence and vendor management requests.
  • Perform additional compliance and risk management responsibilities as assigned.
