About The Position

SAIC is seeking a Legal Analyst to provide full-time support on-site, working as part of a contract team with the DoW Office of the General Counsel (OGC). This role involves a variety of legal support tasks, including preliminary reviews of orders, international agreements, and requests for assistance, as well as coordinating information collection and processing electronic redactions. The Legal Analyst will also prepare Vaughn indices, draft correspondence, identify responsive and privileged information, and conduct legal research. Familiarity with FOIA exemptions and e-Discovery software is essential.

Responsibilities

Provide preliminary review and preliminarily prepare orders authorizing the deployment of U.S. forces worldwide, orders to execute military operations, and rules of engagement.
Provide preliminary reviews, research, and technical support on all aspects of defense-related international agreements, including but not limited to, defense trade cooperation treaties, intellectual property agreements, international cooperative agreements, acquisition and cross-servicing agreements, and status of forces agreements before final review by a government attorney.
Provide preliminary review and analysis of requests for assistance in identifying evidence and witnesses received by the Department.
Coordinate the collection of information, review the information, and assist in the production or use of appropriate information which is classified or controlled by the Department.
Provide review of DoW component release recommendations and assist in reconciling differences in release recommendations.
Process electronic redaction of exempt information for case records pursuant to the authorities listed in Part 6, Applicable Publications.
Prepare detailed Vaughn indices, to include entries that: (1) identify each document withheld; (2) state the statutory exemption claimed; and (3) explain how disclosure would damage the interests protected by the claimed exemption.
Prepare internal and external correspondence for case attorneys for approval and release.
Review information that is potentially relevant to ongoing litigation and properly identify responsive information for further processing.
Identify all privileged information contained in records responsive to ongoing litigation, congressional inquiries, investigations, and FOIA requests.
Provide preliminary review, analysis, and support for civil litigation cases, congressional inquiries and investigations, Privacy and Civil Liberties matters, FOIA requests, tasked initial FOIA cases, and other matters tasked to OGC.
Coordinate with DoW components for review of responsive records and delivery of cases to and from component offices.
Conduct research of initial FOIA cases and determine the appropriate office to task in responding to the requests.
Apply the appropriate (9) FOIA Exemptions and conduct electronic redactions using the e-Discovery software.
Process electronic redactions of exempt information for case records.
Conduct legal research, as necessary.
