About The Position

This is a part-time work-study position at the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC), a nonprofit legal organization. The role involves gaining experience in legal services by assisting with legal clinics and providing administrative support. Tasks include calling clients, organizing client files, and inputting data into an online case management database. NMILC is a social justice organization dedicated to providing legal services, advocacy, and education to low-income immigrants in New Mexico. Since 2010, NMILC has served over 10,000 immigrants and focuses on collaboration with other organizations to expand access to legal services for marginalized immigrant communities.

Requirements

  • Eligible for work study at UNM
  • Perfectly bilingual, English/Spanish required
  • High school diploma
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to organize information in a clear and concise manner
  • Multi-cultural experience; compassion and patience with a wide variety of individuals
  • Basic computer competency in MS Office and Windows
  • Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM
  • Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count)
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (if Work Study)

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of undergraduate college or university education completed
  • Customer service experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of local community resources and organizations is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Accurately file both digital and paper client case files
  • Prepare documents/case files for workshop clinics
  • Assist with legal clinics and workshops as needed
  • Input client data into our online case management database
  • Assist with administrative projects as they arise
