About The Position

Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is seeking applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position at the rank of lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. This is a one-year temporary appointment with the possibility of annual renewal based on funding, need, and performance. The successful candidate will be a cultural anthropologist with four-field training and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. The role involves a 5/5 teaching load, including multiple on-ground and online sections of the undergraduate cultural anthropology general education course, as well as other undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. MTSU values a diverse student body, including many first-generation college students, and expects a commitment to quality undergraduate teaching.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in anthropology by the appointment date.
  • Four-field training in cultural anthropology.
  • Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to undergraduate teaching.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility for U.S. employment.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • An area of expertise that complements existing faculty strengths (e.g., geographic, methodological, or theoretical areas of research).
  • A PhD in anthropology.
  • Expertise in cultural anthropology.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate anthropology courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 5/5 teaching load.
