About The Position

The Department of Chemistry at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for a full-time (9-month) non-tenure track Lecturer position. The start date is July 1, 2027. This position has an initial commitment of one academic year, with renewal pending adequate performance in the first year. Depending on the candidate's qualifications, there is an opportunity for appointment to Rice’s Teaching Professor track. Teaching responsibilities will focus primarily on General Chemistry and may include lectures, laboratory courses (day and evening), and discussion sections. Additional teaching assignments may be made based on departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. This position will work collaboratively with other faculty members to develop and teach course content and materials. Participation in departmental service and committees is possible and encouraged. Optional summer school teaching for extra compensation may be available.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field by July 1, 2027.
  • Previous teaching experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Track record of teaching excellence (prior teaching experience and use of evidence-based practices).
  • Experience in mentoring teaching assistants at the college/university level.
