About The Position

The Department of Criminal Justice at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for its pool of part-time lecturers. Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across the campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool are valid for the current academic year and will close effective May 31, 2027. A new application must be submitted each year by June 15, 2027, to be considered for the following academic year.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in criminal justice or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated subject-matter competence appropriate to the courses being assigned.
  • Ability to teach in person at the Bakersfield campus.
  • US residence and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check).
  • Comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment (mandated reporter).

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced graduate education, such as a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D., or MPA).
  • Prior college or university teaching experience.
  • Relevant professional experience in the field, including supervisory, leadership, or management training.
  • Experience with Canvas (CSUB’s preferred learning management system).
  • Demonstrated ability or experience working with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in person at the Bakersfield campus.
  • Deliver instruction in various criminal justice areas, including policing, corrections, courts, theory, research methods, ethics, correctional counseling, criminal investigation, criminal law, and policy.
  • Engage with community partners to create internship opportunities, service-learning experiences, and career pathways for students.
  • Provide student mentorship and professional development.
  • Maintain high-quality instruction as central to the program’s mission.
