About The Position

The Department of English at Sacramento State is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time lecturer pool to teach courses in Upper-Division Literature, Creative Writing, and Technical Writing for the 2026-27 academic year. The department is a community of teachers, scholars, writers, and staff dedicated to promoting learning in various English disciplines. Courses in literature will focus on specific regional and/or historical areas such as British, American, World, and Postcolonial literature. Creative Writing courses will cover fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. Technical Writing courses (ENGL 120T) will be digital-first, focusing on technical and professional communication with an emphasis on documentation for real audiences and contexts, including applied projects. Students will develop skills in content strategy, SEO, and user-centered writing, and explore emerging issues like AI in professional writing workflows. Courses are taught in person and meet two or three times per week. Part-time lecturers are responsible for instruction, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours. Additional duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments are determined by the Department Chair and College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires are made to fill instructional needs due to enrollment fluctuations, changes in tenure-track faculty assignments, or other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though academic year appointments may occur. Appointments can be renewed based on departmental needs, funding, and performance. Initial appointments are often made shortly before the semester begins.
