About The Position

The English Education program invites applications for a nine-month non-tenure track Lecturer or Instructional Assistant Professor (depending on qualifications). This position will provide instruction within the English Education sequence, which will include teaching introductory English Education and methods coursework and fieldwork as well as supervising teacher candidates and student teachers. Coursework in the major develops content knowledge and discipline-specific pedagogy informed by current theory and research in the field as well as diverse clinical experiences. We invite teacher candidates to enact socially just English Language Arts teaching and learning, and our cohort model engages teacher candidates in a professional learning community that sustains ongoing reflection, inquiry, and advocacy. This position offers a variable teaching load with a competitive salary and benefits. The selected candidate will work closely with and under the direction of the Director of English Education and must also be able to work effectively with students, professionals in the field, and other staff and faculty in the program. The ISU English Teacher Education Program resides in a vibrant English Department that emphasizes an English Studies model in its undergraduate, MA, and PhD programs and includes scholars in the fields of Children’s Literature, Composition, Creative Writing, English Education, Linguistics, Literary and Cultural Studies, Publishing Studies, Rhetoric, TESOL, and Technical Communication. Our Department faculty and graduate students are a community of diverse scholars who value pedagogy and collaborative, interdisciplinary work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English education or related field.
  • Experience teaching in diverse secondary (middle and/or high school) English classrooms.
  • Commitment to and ability to successfully enact and reflect on socially just English Language Arts instruction.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently, effectively, and accurately with details and people.
  • Eagerness to contribute to a community of teacher scholars who work collaboratively to enact the vision and mission of the program.
  • Demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or doctoral degree in English Education, or related field.
  • Experience preparing teacher candidates in English, either as a secondary methods instructor, university supervisor, and/or cooperating teacher.
