About The Position

Grand Canyon University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking a Lecturer – Math to join their team. This role involves teaching mathematics courses, developing engaging instruction with current methodologies and technologies, stimulating student discussions, incorporating research and experiential activities, and assessing student performance. The position also requires assisting students outside of class hours and maintaining compliance with university policies.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or similar, from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate credits in mathematics.
  • 2-3 years of instructional experience at the post-secondary level.
  • Ability to teach a variety of math courses.
  • Familiarity with web enhanced instructional tools such as Angel/Blackboard/WebCT.
  • Ability to learn mathematical software, such as Mathematica, Matlab, or Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of values-based education from a Christian perspective.
  • Strong communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, self-motivation, integrity, and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or similar, from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate credits in mathematics.
  • 3-5 years higher education teaching experience in a closely related field that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, and evaluating student achievement.
  • Experience teaching a variety of math courses.
  • Understanding of the various methods of adult learning, education deployment/delivery including distance education/online services and classroom.
  • Desire to integrate mathematical modeling principles into undergraduate mathematics courses.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching across multiple modalities.
  • Demonstrated engagement in the integration of Christianity with the discipline of mathematics.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches courses within the requisite discipline/major and/or general education courses if assigned.
  • Develops and provides instruction that incorporates current teaching methodologies, technologies and other trends that reflect advances in the requisite discipline educational instruction.
  • Engages students within classroom to stimulate discussions for collective learning.
  • Incorporates relevant research resources and experiential activities to support course objectives, lectures and learning outcomes.
  • Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading.
  • Assists students outside classroom hours (8-9 hours per week).
  • Assesses student performance in accordance with University Assessment Practices.
  • Engages regularly in professional development activities.
  • Maintains compliance with all college and University policies and program accreditation/licensure requirements.
