About The Position

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is seeking a Full-Time Lecturer for the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies. This position is effective August 17, 2027, for the Fall Semester. CSULB is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) committed to serving diverse students and promoting inclusive excellence. The university has established initiatives to support Black and Latinx student success and prioritizes engaging all students, expanding access to higher education, promoting intellectual achievement, building community, and cultivating resilience through its Beach 2030 University Action Plans. The College of Health & Human Services, where the department resides, is a large college with multiple degree programs and numerous community partnerships. The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies offers undergraduate degrees in Recreation Management and Recreational Therapy, focusing on program oversight and therapeutic recreation, respectively.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Recreation Therapy, Recreation, Parks, Tourism, or related discipline.
  • MA/MS in Recreation Therapy, Recreation Management, or related discipline.
  • Candidates working toward completion of a master’s degree will be considered as long as official notification of completion of the master’s degree can be provided by August 1, 2027 (for Fall semester start).
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in Teaching.
  • Specialization in general Recreation Management or Recreation Therapy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching or training excellence at the college or professional level.
  • At least two years of related professional work experience (Parks and Recreation, Summer Camps, Non-Profit Recreation like YMCA’s or Boys and Girls Clubs).
  • Certified Recreation Therapist (RTC: CA, CTRS: National).
  • Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Recreation Therapy and Recreation Management.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external partners to further expand student opportunities in Recreation and Leisure Studies.
  • Participate in service to the Department, College, University, Profession, and Community.
