About The Position

The Penn State School of Theatre in the College of Arts & Architecture invites applications for a one-year full-time Non-Tenure Line Lecturer in Dance, for the nationally renowned BFA Musical Theatre Program. The position will work with the Head of the Musical Theatre Program and the Musical Theatre faculty to continue to build on the Program’s many strengths in training for the musical theatre artist. This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in professional experience as a choreographer/dancer.
  • Significant professional experience in dance, performance and teaching or choreography.
  • The ability to effectively teach and mentor students with a wide range of technical abilities, physical capabilities, and prior dance training.
  • The ability to differentiate instruction, support individual learning needs, and cultivate an environment where all students can develop technical proficiency, creative expression, and professional readiness.
  • Evidence of working collectively to cultivate a culture that supports success and enables all members of a college community to thrive.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the musical theatre repertoire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous university teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching beginning tap, advanced tap, and Musical Theatre jazz dance classes.
  • A choreography assignment on a musical is also anticipated.
  • Participation in student recruitment.
