The Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences (ESS) at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a Lecturer in Geospatial Analysis and Statistics for the 2026-27 academic year. The anticipated courses include Introduction to Coding for Geospatial Analysis (in Python), Introduction to GIS, and Intermediate GIS. There may also be opportunities to teach a statistics course or a Remote Sensing course. Teaching materials for all courses are available and will be shared. Specific teaching assignments will be determined by the candidate's qualifications and departmental needs. This position addresses the medium-term need for teaching geospatial courses within the department, driven by the requirements for majors and the interdisciplinary geospatial analysis minor. The successful candidate will teach six to eight courses throughout the academic year, with at least one course in each of the fall, winter, and spring quarters. Laboratory courses are counted as two course equivalents if they include a lecture and two lab sections, and if the classes meet half-time. Each quarter is 10 weeks long, followed by an 11th week for final examinations. This is a fixed-term position starting September 1, 2026. Santa Clara University is a welcoming and inclusive community of teaching scholars grounded in the University’s values of academic excellence, social justice, and community engagement, all within a culture of care. The University leverages the resources of the greater Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Instruction is primarily in-person, with the possibility of temporary online instruction if health conditions require it.
