About The Position

The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer in Biology position, specializing in anatomy and physiology, to begin Fall 2026. This role involves teaching a two-semester anatomy and physiology course sequence, including both lecture and laboratory sections, with some labs held in the evening. Occasional instruction in a non-majors human biology course may also be available. The position requires instruction for 24 credit hours per academic year, utilizing active and engaging pedagogies. Responsibilities include holding office hours, mentoring students individually and in groups, assessing student work with constructive feedback, and engaging with faculty development programs. The lecturer will also perform departmental duties such as attending meetings, representing the department at admissions events, and participating in committees and task forces.

Requirements

  • MS degree or equivalent (e.g., PhD candidate) in a related area
  • Teaching experience
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily teaching in the 2-semester anatomy and physiology course sequence, including both lecture and laboratory sections (some evening labs)
  • Occasional instruction in the non-major’s human biology course
  • Provide instruction for 24-credit hours per academic year
  • Utilize active, engaging pedagogies in the classroom
  • Hold office hours and be present on campus for considerable time each week
  • Mentor students in one-on-one and group interactions
  • Assess student work and provide constructive and timely feedback on how to improve students’ content knowledge, critical thinking skills, research abilities, and oral and written communication skills
  • Engage with Biology faculty and the Center for Faculty Excellence to further develop teaching and mentoring skills
  • Complete campus-wide training required by the Offices of Academic Affairs and Human Resources
  • Perform other departmental duties and attend activities as necessary, including attending department meetings, representing the department at Admissions events, and participating in committees, task forces, and others as required
