About The Position

The Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking Lecturers to teach one, two, three, or four courses per semester in various subjects including First-Year Composition, Business Communication, Technical Communication, English as a Second Language, Public Speaking, Business and Professional Speaking, Pre-Speech and Language Pathology, Literature, and other courses as needed. Teaching assignments may vary, occurring on Monday/Wednesday/Friday, Tuesday/Thursday, or five days a week. This is a 9-month faculty appointment, operating at a 75% - 87.5% FTE, which translates to 30 – 35 hours per week. While the initial appointment is for one year, renewal is possible based on performance and departmental needs. The role requires attendance at orientation, some staff meetings, workshops, or forums, and adherence to programmatic goals. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without requiring immigration sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric, Technical Communication, Speech Communication, Linguistics or a closely related field
  • Experience in college-level teaching of one or more First-Year Composition, Business Communication, Technical Communication, English as a Second Language, Linguistics, Public Speaking and Business and Professional Speaking, Literature, Creative Writing, or courses that are closely aligned
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in English, Rhetoric, Technical Communication, Speech Communication, Linguistics, or related field
  • Experience teaching Public Speaking, Business and Professional Speaking and/or Business Communication
