About The Position

East Tennessee State University's Department of Literature and Language is seeking a full-time, nine-month Lecturer in American Sign Language for the 2026-2027 academic year. This is a one-year, in-person position located on the Johnson City, Tennessee main campus. The role involves teaching an expected course load of 4 sections per semester, totaling 8 sections for the academic year. The university is a state-assisted, Doctoral Research Intensive University with over 15,000 students, situated in the Appalachian Highlands. The Department of Literature and Language is a large and diverse department encompassing English, World Languages, Film and Media Studies, Creative Writing, and related disciplines.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in ASL, ASL Instruction, Deaf Culture/Education, or a closely-related field.
  • Relevant teaching experience.

  • Familiarity with the TRUE+WAY ASL curriculum.
