About The Position

The Department of Languages, Cultures, and Literatures at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full time, 9-month appointment at the rank of Lecturer III to begin August 2, 2027. The department seeks to hire a specialist in Chinese Literature and Culture and East Asian Religions. This is a joint hire with the Religious Studies Program. The department seeks a Lecturer III with the potential to teach courses in Chinese literature and culture in translation in the LCL department, and courses on East Asian religions in Religious Studies, as well as large lecture courses on topics of broad interest in the field. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate programs and perform service activities in East Asian Studies and Religious Studies. All Lecturers are reviewed annually. Workload is determined by the department Chair and University policies.

Requirements

  • PhD in Literature, Cultural Studies, Religious Studies, Philosophy or a related field by date of appointment (August 2, 2027)
  • The potential to teach courses in Chinese literature and culture, as well as courses on East Asian religions and courses on topics of broad interest in religious studies.

  • Native or near-native command of both Chinese and English.
  • Demonstrated potential to teach courses in Chinese literary, cultural, or media studies at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated potential to teach large enrollment courses in East Asian Religion or World Religions.

  • Demonstrated potential to contribute to program development for East Asian Studies and Religious Studies.
