About The Position

The AP Curriculum and Assessment Team at College Board is seeking a Director I, AP Chinese Language and Culture to preserve and improve the quality and validity of the AP Program’s core deliverables: the exam, the course curriculum, and the professional development content. This role involves item development and management, training and collaborating with subject-matter experts (SMEs), and ethically integrating AI technologies in assessment creation and review. The Director will train SMEs on assessment development protocols, translate between academics and technical experts, and develop formative assessment materials for AP Chinese Language and Culture teachers worldwide. This position serves as a key point of contact for committees and communities of subject-matter experts, driving the strategic growth of AP Chinese Language and Culture globally. The role may also involve presenting and moderating discussions with academic and membership audiences to ensure understanding and support for AP courses and exams.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Chinese Language or a directly related discipline, and knowledge of current trends in the discipline.
  • Native to near-native fluency in Chinese.
  • Expertise in Chinese Language with at least 5 years of experience in standardized assessment development or related work.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with solid technical proficiency and a customer-focused mindset.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain close attention to detail, including proofreading.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement processes and procedures, manage project plans and schedules, and maintain tracking documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels, and engage in giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Ability to travel 6-8 times per year, plus up to two additional weeks for the AP Reading.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an assessment leader for AP Chinese Language and Culture, with primary responsibility for assessment development.
  • Independently lead processes for authoring and revising assessment content, including training educator constituents and leveraging generative AI.
  • Independently lead the development and management of assessment content (formative and summative) and scoring materials through iterative review stages.
  • Independently lead the development of assessment forms for AP Chinese Language and Culture, ensuring alignment with approved curricula and test specifications.
  • Lead multiple face-to-face, weekend meetings, and virtual meetings annually with the AP Chinese Language and Culture Test Development Committee, strategizing and developing agendas for maximum productivity.
  • Train and directly supervise Test Development Committee members in AP Chinese Language and Culture as content development contributors and reviewers.
  • Recruit educators for the AP Chinese Language and Culture Development Committee and other opportunities to support the AP Program.
  • Lead the successful scoring of student responses for AP Chinese Language and Culture Exams at the annual scoring event ('AP Reading') and produce AP Reading publications materials.
  • Contribute to current research and best practices in assessment, and engage regularly with AP Curriculum & Assessment colleagues to align on standards and shared principles.
  • Support assessment workstreams within the AP English, World Languages, and Arts Department.
  • Contribute to processes for efficient, high-quality assessment development.
  • Contribute to initiatives to refine and improve question task models as well as exam design in collaboration with AP Curriculum & Assessment leaders.
  • Monitor exam validity, security, reliability, fairness, and quality, as well as reader reliability, identifying areas for improvement and executing on targeted improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with psychometrics and AP Curriculum & Assessment staff to establish fair, reliable, and valid cut scores for the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam.
  • Refine and improve the AP Chinese Language and Culture Framework to ensure clear and explicit learning outcomes that align with strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with AP teams to support the development of new products for AP Chinese Language and Culture designed to address unmet teacher instructional needs.
  • Serve as a recognized and trusted resource within the educator community by collaboration and engagement with the community to drive teacher satisfaction with AP Chinese Language and Culture and its exam.
  • Collaborate with the AP Professional learning team to support AP Chinese Language and Culture consultants and teachers.
  • Work with the AP Higher Education team to co-develop and implement plans to raise college and university awareness of AP Chinese Language and Culture courses and exams.
