About The Position

The Department of English Language and Literature in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a part-time Lecturer I position with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2026. This position is non-tenure track, with a University Year appointment period (i.e., runs August 25 through May 24 each year). The part-time (33% effort) load for a Lecturer I in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is one course per semester. The appointment period will be one course for Fall 2026 and one course for Winter 2027. The appointment may be renewed (based on programmatic need, funding, and performance). The appointment is subject to final approval by the College.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in English or Comparative Literature, conferred prior to the start date of the position.
  • Expertise in literary and cultural traditions from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and/or the Pacific Islands.
  • Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching one undergraduate English course in Fall 2026 and one undergraduate English course in Winter 2027.
  • Both courses should fulfill the REGIONS requirement for the undergraduate English major, specifically 300- or 400-level courses that fulfill the REGIONS subcategory of “Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific Islands.”
