The Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences (ADVS) at Utah State University (USU) is seeking a Lecturer in Equine Science and Management. This 9-month academic year position focuses 95% on teaching, including instruction and applied/clinical responsibilities, and 5% on service within the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The role emphasizes excellence in teaching, mentorship, and applied instruction, contributing to undergraduate courses in horsemanship, horse production and management, equine evaluation, and equine industry practices. Teaching assignments will be tailored to departmental needs and the candidate's expertise. Instruction will primarily take place at the USU Sam Skaggs Family Equine Education Center, which is equipped with modern facilities including a heated indoor arena, outdoor arena, breeding and foaling facilities, stall barns, and classrooms. The center houses a herd of 80-100 horses used for instruction in riding, reproduction, training, and equine-assisted services. In addition to teaching and mentoring, the successful candidate will assist the Equine Center Director with the daily operations of the teaching program, including horse coordination and facility support. The position also involves advising the Western Equestrian Team and requires flexibility for occasional evening, weekend, and travel commitments. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth and future direction of USU's equine program and student experiences, preparing graduates for careers in the equine industry. USU Extension also operates the Bastian Agricultural Center in Salt Lake County, providing additional outreach opportunities.
