About The Position

The Department of Computer Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona is inviting applications for a Part-Time Lecturer pool for part-time teaching appointments. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system, known for its integrative experiential learning education, learn-by-doing approach, and Teacher Scholar Model. The university has a scenic 1,400-acre campus, serves nearly 30,000 students, and has over 1,400 faculty across various degree programs. The College of Science, where the Computer Science Department resides, focuses on educating, mentoring, and inspiring students through scientific inquiry and hands-on learning, with approximately 150 full-time faculty, 40 staff, and 4,400 active majors. The Computer Science Department has an ABET accredited B.S. program and a high-quality M.S. program, with 18 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 18 part-time lecturers. The department emphasizes an engaged teacher-scholar model, collegiality, collaboration, dedicated teaching, and innovative scholarship, supported by several computing laboratories with Linux and Windows environments. The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available on short notice, with terms typically running from late August to mid-December (Fall) and mid-January to mid-May (Spring), with potential Summer Session opportunities. The department seeks experienced and student-centered individuals to teach in various computer science subdisciplines, including fundamentals of programming, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, data science, cybersecurity, networks, machine learning, AI, cloud computing, and game development.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and ability to furnish evidence of strong teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
  • Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses.
