About The Position

The Department of Environment and Geography at California State University San Marcos is accepting applications for Fall 2026 for a Lecturer position to teach ENVS 300: Environmental Problems and Solutions. This lower-division physical science general education (5A) course explores imminent global environmental problems and society's response with innovative solutions. Requirements

  • A master’s degree in environmental studies, environmental science, geography, sociology, political science, sustainability, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of global environmental issues and societal responses.
  • Experience teaching at the college level or evidence of strong potential for effective undergraduate teaching.
  • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A doctorate in Environmental Studies or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience teaching courses on global environmental change, sustainability, environmental policy, or related subjects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing ideological, socio‑economic, and environmental factors contributing to environmental problems.
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations and employing culturally responsive pedagogical practices.
  • Familiarity with solution‑oriented approaches to environmental challenges, such as technological innovation, policy interventions, or community‑based strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ENVS 300: Environmental Problems and Solutions, a lower-division physical science general education (5A) course in physical geography.
  • Explore imminent global environmental problems and how society is responding to those problems with innovative solutions.
  • Introduce ideological, environmental, and socio-economic factors that contribute to the production of environmental problems and solutions.
  • Draw parallels between specific environmental problems and their possible solutions.
