About The Position

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is a 100% employee-owned environmental consulting firm that plans, designs, permits, mitigates, and restores projects across communities, infrastructure systems, open spaces, and wildlands. With 50 years of experience and 21 offices, ESA is offering a Florida Environmental Internship - Fall 2026 program. This is a variable part-time paid opportunity running for approximately four months, starting in August 2026, with 12 to 24 hours per week. The program aims to promote diversity in environmental, engineering, and planning fields by creating opportunities for students from historically under-represented groups, including BIPOC, veterans, disabled individuals, and first-generation college students. Priority will be given to candidates who can commit to working in person or hybrid from the Tampa, Florida ESA Office for optimized engagement and hands-on training/mentorship. Qualified candidates must be currently enrolled in university or recent graduates (including grad students). The Fall 2026 Internship (Florida) will focus on the Biological Resources & Land Management (BRLM) environmental market, hosted out of the Tampa, Florida ESA Office.

Requirements

  • Currently in university and/or recent graduates (including grad students).
  • Ability to commit to working 12-24 hours a week.
  • Effective team member and communicator who can work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to check work for errors and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow through on assignments to deliver project assignments on time.
  • Ability to learn from constructive feedback.
  • Pursuing a degree in Biology/Natural Resource Management, Climate Change/Sustainability Planning, Environmental Planning, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a similarly related field.
  • 1 year of experience in a coordination role supporting multiple groups or managers in a similar setting.
  • High attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with various levels of staff.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant integrated software application skills.
  • Ability to work from our Tampa, Florida ESA office for the duration of the internship.
  • Proof of vaccination status or an approved exemption and accommodation (in states where this applies) is required for employees working from an ESA office or conducting in-person ESA work-related activities.

Responsibilities

  • Use and expand knowledge in understanding environmental protection regulations and their application.

  • Safely operate, load, and transport equipment and gear.
  • Cross fences, creeks, and other obstacles.
  • Work in an office environment, which may include sitting behind a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Participate in compliance monitoring and reporting activities for on-going construction projects.
  • Work near heavy equipment.
