About The Position

The Department of Construction Management (CM) at Sacramento State is seeking a full-time Lecturer, also known as a "Professor of Practice," to join their faculty. This non-tenure-track position is designed to bring experienced construction management professionals into the academic environment to enhance student learning and strengthen industry connections. The CM program focuses on practical, hands-on experience for its over 500 undergraduate students, preparing them for immediate professional practice and leadership roles. The role involves teaching undergraduate courses, curriculum development, student mentorship, and program-related activities. While scholarly work is encouraged, it is not a requirement. This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for one academic year, renewable based on funding, need, and performance. Initial rank and salary are determined by professional experience, teaching experience, and educational background.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil or mechanical engineering, or a similar profession.
  • Minimum of seven years of domestic construction experience in commercial building, engineering, or specialty subcontracting segments of the industry.
  • Professional experience with responsibility and authority to plan, schedule, monitor, and control construction projects or significant portions of large projects.
  • Professional experience and demonstrated competency in several of the following areas: Estimating; Project management; Planning and scheduling; Construction operations and productivity management; Construction safety; Computer applications in construction; Labor relations or construction law; or Specialty contracting (e.g., MEPF).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability and commitment to effectively teach undergraduate courses in a variety of construction management classes to a diverse student population.
  • Commitment to enhance interaction with the construction industry in support of the CM Program.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate construction management courses.
  • Participate in curriculum and coursework development.
  • Advise students and assist with orientations.
  • Contribute to Department, College, and University level committee work.
  • Engage in student-related activities, such as coaching teams for student competitions, serving as a student club faculty advisor, or supporting the summer bootcamp.
  • Identify construction field trip locations, obtain necessary permissions, and lead student field trips to these sites.
