About The Position

The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an on-going basis for our pool of part-time lecturers to teach our lower division and upper division courses, as well as GEO 102: General Education - Oral Communication. GEO 102 Course Description: Introduction to the form and content of communication. Includes: the linguistic, psychological, and cultural bases of communication; various types of communication ranging from basic speech acts to forms of persuasion; the social and political significance of communication; and how communication operates within and across a wide range of social contexts. Students become actively acquainted with some of the potential proficiencies that may be brought into various social contexts. Requires active participation in classroom exercises and practicing public speaking. The department has two (2) Bachelor's degree programs: Communication and Media Studies. Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15th.

Requirements

  • ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field.
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in-person classroom instruction.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the State of California.

Nice To Haves

  • A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field.
  • Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs.
  • Higher education teaching experience with a minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to subject area.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence.
  • Commitment to serving the campus community in teaching and service.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lower division and upper division courses in Communication & Media Studies.
  • Teach GEO 102: General Education - Oral Communication.
  • Actively participate in classroom exercises and practice public speaking (for GEO 102).
  • Fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across campus on an as-needed basis.
  • Potentially be rehired for subsequent appointments.
