About The Position

University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Office for Student Affairs is seeking applications for the Interdisciplinary Studies, College Success lecturer position. This is a lecturer pool position for Fall 2026 / Spring 2027, subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. The role involves teaching College Success Courses in various formats and preparing course materials, assessing student learning, and working under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator.

Requirements

• Master's in Social Sciences, Education, or related field; OR Bachelor's in Social Sciences, Education, or related field and 3 years of experience working in a Higher Education setting

• Five-Day Experiential Learning Institute (FELI) or Kahi ‘iaka Professional Development Certificate from Kapi ‘olani CC
• Teaching experience at a community college
• Demonstrated ability to work with community college students
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively
• Demonstrated understanding of issues related to Native Hawaiians or other indigenous populations and the local community, including Hawai`i's unique economic, political, business, and cultural environment
• Have a supportive attitude toward student learning and be able to create a nurturing classroom environment for students of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Experience with student success initiatives, academic advising, or first year education curriculum

Responsibilities

• Teach College Success Courses (IS 104, IS 108, IS 108L & IS 111, and IS 120 or other new IS courses offered) in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid
• Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress
• Assess student learning using course competencies and program learning outcomes
• Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught
• Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline
• Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations
