About The Position

This is a part-time, temporary lecturer position for the Fall 2026 semester at Honolulu Community College. The role is non-tenurial and assignments are made as needed, contingent upon funding, satisfactory performance, and staffing requirements. The position is not remote, but may involve teaching on campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools), or through distance learning (internet). Specific requirements like Department of Defense security clearance or background checks may be necessary for certain assignments.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry; or Master's in Chemical Engineering, Geochemistry, Chemical Oceanography, Organic Chemistry, Forensics Chemistry, Chemical Physics, or Environmental Chemistry with 18 credits of advanced coursework in Chemistry or Biochemistry. ("Advanced coursework" is defined as 300-400 level courses offered in a bachelor's program).

  • Graduate and undergraduate transcript(s) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education showing degree(s) and relevant coursework. Copies of official transcripts are acceptable; however, original official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
  • Transcripts issued outside of the United States of America require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from an agency having membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA. Expense of the evaluation shall be borne by the applicant.
  • Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of employment.
  • Do not include self-identifying photos and redact all references to confidential information on submitted documents, including Social Security numbers and dates of birth.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives.
  • Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  • Work under supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  • Participate in student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
  • Be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments.
  • Be available for teaching on campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools) and/or distance learning assignments for courses taught via the internet.
