About The Position

This is a part-time temporary/permanent position for a Lecturer in Administration of Justice/Criminal Justice. The role involves teaching assigned courses, maintaining office hours, preparing course materials, and collaborating with the discipline coordinator or division chairperson. Instructional assignments may include distance education, and evening, weekend, television, or off-campus classes. This is an in-person position and not remote.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Administration of Justice / Criminal Justice OR Bachelor’s Degree in Administration of Justice / Criminal Justice AND three (3) years of related work experience OR Associate’s Degree in Administration of Justice / Criminal Justice AND five (5) years of related work experience OR 15 college credits AND seven (7) years related work experience including training.
  • All minimum qualifications must be from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment.
  • Satisfy employment eligibility verification requirements of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
  • Satisfy reference checks of previous employers.
  • Satisfy criminal history record checks (for certain positions).

Nice To Haves

  • Successful community college and or university teaching experience in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to use writing assignments and integrate teaching of appropriate thinking skills in to course content as an integral part of student's classroom learning activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Native Hawaiian language, history, politics, culture, practices, and contemporary issues.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline qualified for.
  • Maintain minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  • Prepare course syllabi, grading and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  • Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  • May include instructional assignments involving distance education.
  • Other duties as assigned.
