About The Position

The Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university in Silicon Valley, seeks one Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Accounting beginning in Fall 2026. Santa Clara University and the Leavey School of Business have a long tradition of teaching excellence. Teaching is judged by the "teacher's total effect upon the education of his or her students" and includes classroom instruction, academic advising, and curriculum development. The successful applicant is expected to teach undergraduate courses in Financial Statement Analysis. They are also expected to develop and refine course materials that integrate current financial reporting standards, data analysis, and practical applications in corporate strategy and valuation. The position duties include teaching/advising, service, and professional activity. Teaching is the primary responsibility of a Lecturer. The maximum teaching load is nine undergraduate courses over three academic quarters (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Lecturers are appointed for a one-year term. Reappointment to subsequent terms depends on the availability of funds, the persistence of programmatic need, and superior teaching.

Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a related professional designation
  • Demonstrate excellence or significant improvement in teaching at the university level.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and teaching assigned accounting courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Designing course syllabi.
  • Preparing for and conducting all assigned class meetings.
  • Assigning and evaluating written work, projects, and exams that align with course learning objectives.
  • Holding weekly office hours on campus.
  • Assigning and submitting student grades to the Registrar's office by the designated deadline.
  • Engaging in university and student events.
  • Serving as an active member of the department’s strategic initiatives.
  • Attending department and school meetings as requested.
  • Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned by the Chair or Dean.
