About The Position

This position is a leave replacement for an Elementary Music Teacher at Chief Leschi Schools, providing music instruction during the temporary absence of the regularly assigned teacher. The role involves maintaining instructional continuity, implementing curriculum, assessing student progress, fostering a positive and culturally responsive learning environment, and supporting the school's educational goals. Chief Leschi Schools, formerly the Puyallup Tribal School, was founded in 1976 and is the largest tribal school in Washington State, funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Music Education, or an appropriately related field.
• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsement or ability to obtain the appropriate certification/permit as required by the position.
• Knowledge of effective instructional and classroom management practices.
• Ability to provide developmentally appropriate instruction to elementary-aged students.
• Ability to meet all certification requirements applicable to the leave replacement assignment.
• Successful criminal background clearance
• Successful and/or clear drug screening

Responsibilities

• Plans and delivers developmentally appropriate elementary music instruction aligned with established curriculum and learning standards.
• Provides instruction in a variety of musical concepts, including rhythm, melody, movement, singing, instruments, and music appreciation.
• Maintains a safe, positive, culturally responsive classroom with effective classroom management.
• Differentiates instruction and provides appropriate accommodations to meet diverse student learning needs.
• Monitors student progress and maintains required attendance, grades, and records.
• Communicates and collaborates with students, families, staff, and administrators to support student success.
• Maintains musical instruments, equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Supports school performances, assemblies, cultural events, and other music-related activities as assigned.
• Incorporates Native American culture, music, and perspectives into instruction when appropriate.
• Participates in required meetings, professional development, conferences, and school activities.
• Maintains confidentiality and follows school policies and procedures.
• Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
