About The Position

Hennepin County’s Human Resources (HR) department is seeking a Leave and Accommodation Management (LAM) Supervisor to provide expertise and oversight for the county's LAM team. The LAM team is within the Total Rewards division and the position is responsible for overseeing and supporting the accurate and timely administration of all county leave programs. Candidates with demonstrated experience in complex absence management and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation work along with strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills are encouraged to apply. Requirements

  • Eight or more years of professional human resources and/or organization development experience.
  • Certificate in human resources from an approved college or university and six or more years of professional human resources and/or organization development experience.
  • Two years of college including 12 semester credits in the fields below and six or more years of professional human resources and/or organization development experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, industrial relations, human resources administration, organization development, public administration, psychology or a field closely related to the position and four or more years of professional human resources and/or organization development experience.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with employer full-cycle leave/FMLA administration and return-to-work in a union environment.
  • Experience with ADA Title I accommodation requests and engaging in the interactive process.
  • Three or more years of supervising and effectively leading a team of professionals.
  • Experience with vendor and partner relationship management.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state leave laws; understanding of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Knowledge of HRIS systems and data collection, reporting and auditing practices.
  • Knowledge of leave administration policies, collective bargaining agreements, and labor management processes.
  • Ability to create a collaborative, diverse, motivative, and supportive work culture and develop future leaders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles with management and other officials.
  • Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of both internal and external customers with excellence.
  • Ability to work independently and successfully manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Select, train, support, provide day-to-day work direction, and supervise the performance of LAM staff ensuring they have the knowledge, skills and resources to effectively administer the county’s leave program and achieve workplan goals.
  • Ensure that employees on leave are compensated timely and accurately, receive comprehensive and timely customer service; serve as a back-up leave administrator.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and decision-making on escalated employee leave and accommodation requests.
  • Oversee the implementation of work plans that align with the HR strategic plan including the department’s strategic communications, data and technology plans.
  • Create and oversee systematic processes ensuring the LAM team’s data entries are completed timely and accurately with a process improvement lens.
  • Implement department-approved data and technology strategies and activities that ensure comprehensive approaches to service delivery, data reporting, quality improvement and systems design; facilitate data file exchange processes with internal and external partners.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement LAM standard operating procedures and policies in coordination with department and county stakeholders.
  • Manage LAM vendor performance.
  • Use the HRIS to maximize leave processing and data collection, reporting and auditing responsibilities and coordinate with designated department subject matter experts (SMEs) and Benefits Manager to respond to data requests.
