About The Position

We are currently looking for two (2) Learning Strategist for a permanent, full-time role. The Learning Strategist (LS) provides in-depth one-on-one support to trade workers experiencing barriers to completion. The role provides learning support through the development of individualized learning plans that support areas such as time management, study skills, and test-taking strategies. It also includes conducting informal learning assessments and referring trade workers to formal learning assessments when needed. Reporting to the Manager of Completions, the Learning Strategist helps SkilledTradesBC identify and reduce barriers that may affect a trade worker’s progress toward trade certification. This role requires strong organizational, interpersonal, and data collection skills, along with a solid understanding of adult education and learning disabilities.

Requirements

  • A proven track record of working independently and reporting results to a supervisor is required
  • Experience leveraging technology to appropriately and effectively work remotely with clients for learning purposes is required
  • Advanced computer skills and demonstrable experience using customer relationship platforms is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule is required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience working with adult learners with support needs is required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, clients and external partners is required
  • Ability to de-escalate emotionally charged situations
  • Awareness of apprenticeship policies, administrative guidelines and program requirements, with the ability to apply them consistently in client support and service delivery
  • Knowledge regarding learning challenges, barriers, and disabilities, as well as supports and how to apply them
  • Sound knowledge of community resources, inclusive design principles, and evidence-informed learning support best practices, with the ability to a range of modalities to support personalized and accessible learning
  • Advising, coaching, case management and/or mentoring experiences
  • A strong knowledge of the B.C. apprenticeship system, or comparable provincial apprenticeship system. Experience working directly with apprentices and sponsors to increase continuation and completion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and learning supports to enhance client experience, accessibility, and outcomes

Nice To Haves

  • Highschool or equivalent, and post-secondary degree in Trade, Tech, Education or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Engages directly with trade workers to assess learning support needs, develop and implement personalized plans, provide coaching, monitor progress and support the use of learning tools and assistive technologies.
  • Support trade workers as a trusted learning strategist and specialist in learning supports around trades progression and certification.
  • Schedule and prepare for learning support meetings with trade workers.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with trade workers to assess learning supports and to determine what to include and what tools to use for the trade worker’s individualized learning plan.
  • Develop and implement personalized plans in collaboration with the trade worker that include one or both of the following: Personalized learning support plans that identify areas of weakness and provide the overall supports needed to foster success in their learning journey. Personalized study plans that may contain instructor feedback, detailed exam preparation guides, etc.
  • Lead and oversee personalized virtual learning support sessions for trade workers to coach and support trade workers with positive training guidance on the following: Time-management, Learning strategies, Test-taking strategies
  • Conduct informal learning assessments and refer to formal assessments when required.
  • Manage learning support plans, as well as services and tools being used by the trade workers and provide insight and guidance on necessary changes to the supports as needed.
  • Support and approve the use of assistive technologies and digital learning tools for trade workers when needed, this may include instruction on the technology, application, etc. that has been recommended to the trade worker.
  • Provides input into processes and maintains awareness of policies, administrative guidelines, best practices, inclusive learning principles and emerging trends
  • Use multiple modalities to support personalized and accessible learning.
  • Supports the Completions team through project coordination, caseload management, secure recordkeeping, reporting and resource planning.
  • Supports Manager of Completions with special projects, as needed.
  • Works with Completions Coordinators to determine case management capacity and to maintain efficient flow of trade worker referrals.
  • Manage case loads and maintain client records, in a secure manner on CRM, to support ongoing data collection.
  • Communicate information on project progress, outcomes, and learnings.
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly and year-end budget reviews and resource planning.
  • Identify and participate in opportunities to continuously improve processes, procedures, documentation, and learning supports
  • Engages, coordinates and collaborates with internal and external partners to operationalize initiatives, projects, support, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support the execution of client learning plans, when necessary.
  • Collaborates with Virtual Learning Strategy Canada (VLS), participates in required training, and attends regular community of practice meetings to stay current on leading practices and developments.
  • Liaises with external partners to: Request referrals to learning support resources such as assistive technology, mental health counselling, or tutoring. Ensure continuous improvement of learning support best practices and ensure familiarity with commonly used assistive technologies. Maintain communication and relationships with a broader community of practice to share learning and resources.
