About The Position
The Learn to Skate Instructor is focused on helping individuals develop fundamental skating skills in a fun and safe environment at Brandon’s Community Sportsplex. This position involves preparing individual program plans, instructing skating programs and evaluating the progress of program participants while promoting interest and encouraging participation in program activity. Instructors work to ensure that participants have a positive experience and are performing the skills in a safe manner as set out in the established programs.
Requirements
- Emergency First Aid and CPR C Certification within 60 days of appointment
- Successful completion of Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Person’s Check
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
Nice To Haves
- Skate instructor coaching certification
- Previous skating instruction or coaching experience
- Previous experience working with children
- Previous experience working in a multi-ethnic setting
Responsibilities
- Prepare lesson plans
- Gather required equipment in advance of lessons
- Greet program participants and assist them in putting on their equipment when required
- Provide instruction to program participants on the prepared lesson plans
- Track attendance
- Complete evaluations and reports
- Keep the skate lock-up tidy
- Correspond with parents after class when required
- Respond to questions from participants and parents related to the program
- Provide a safe, cooperative and enjoyable environment for program participants
- Other duties related to the program as may be required
