About The Position

This position is responsible for the coordination of league sports programming for the department. This position reports to the Athletic and Parks Programs Administrator. The work is light work, which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring manual dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in various indoor and outdoor environments, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; one (1) to three (3) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of recreation administration.
  • Knowledge of the rules, equipment, and facilities requirements for a variety of sports and games.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, department policies and procedures, and program objectives.
  • Knowledge of CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
  • Skill in the use of small office equipment, including calculators, copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to train, supervise and evaluate the work of others.
  • Ability to coordinate a recreational activity involving several participants.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to work independently, work well with others, and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and supervises athletic programs and tournaments for youth and adults.
  • Assists in budgeting and purchasing activities.
  • Coordinates the public usage of recreational facilities.
  • Responds to citizen questions and feedback in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
