About The Position

This position is responsible for designing and managing agency storage systems, computer systems, and hypervisor environments across multiple data centers. It involves configuring and maintaining data center storage replication, computer resources, and hypervisor environments for high availability, offsite backup, and disaster recovery. The role also includes troubleshooting complex issues related to hypervisors, computers, and storage, performing root cause analysis, and leading remediation efforts. Additionally, the specialist will work with various units and vendors to manage critical infrastructure such as uninterrupted power, HVAC, fire detection and suppression systems, and emergency failover procedures. Integration of various power and cooling systems into Building Management Systems for remote monitoring is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Option 1: 60 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: evaluating current IT policies, procedures and practices, recommending and/or leading IT driven change efforts, participating and/or leading activities to achieve project tasks/meet deadlines, and performing solutions design, including 12 months work experience in Storage Management.
  • Option 2: Completion of an associate core program in computer science or information systems; AND 42 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: evaluating current IT policies, procedures and practices, recommending and/or leading IT driven change efforts, participating and/or leading activities to achieve project tasks/meet deadlines, and performing solutions design, including 12 months work experience in Storage Management.
  • Option 3: Completion of an undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; AND 36 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: evaluating current IT policies, procedures and practices, recommending and/or leading IT driven change efforts, participating and/or leading activities to achieve project tasks/meet deadlines, and performing solutions design, including 12 months work experience in Storage Management.
  • Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment.
  • Experience in the required, primary technology (Storage Management) is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and manages agency storage systems, computer systems, and hypervisor environments across multiple data centers.
  • Designs, configures, and maintains synchronous data center storage replication, computer resources, and/or hypervisor environments for high availability, offsite backup, and disaster recovery (HA/DR) between multiple data centers.
  • Troubleshoots tier III hypervisor, computer, and storage issues including kernel/module issues, storage latency, crash analysis, and orchestration problems.
  • Performs root cause analysis and leads remediation efforts for infrastructure issues.
  • Works extensively with operating units, business units, and vendors to design and manage uninterrupted power, HVAC, fire detection and suppression infrastructure, and emergency failover and failback procedures across multiple data centers.
  • Integrates fire detection and suppression systems, generators, transfer switches, UPS, PDUs, CRAC units, and associated network management cards into third-party Building Management System (BMS) watchdogs for remote monitoring.
