About The Position

The Leadership Giving Officer, within the Sloan Office of External Relations, is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors and prospective donors for major gifts ranging from $250K to $2.5M. This role also involves soliciting 100% of the portfolio for Dean’s Circle annual fund gifts of $2,500+. The officer will manage a portfolio of approximately 120-150 prospects, travel for in-person meetings, and identify/qualify new prospects in both major and minor markets, with a focus on the U.S. Southeast and Latin America. Key responsibilities include articulating the mission and priorities of the school and Institute, arranging meetings between prospects and MIT faculty/staff, assisting with cultivation events, maintaining communication with various MIT departments to ensure a coordinated approach to prospect strategy, collaborating with donor relations and initiative leaders on stewardship, and completing timely contact reports and follow-up.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of three years of direct fund-raising experience in a related advancement field.
  • A minimum of two years cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding $10K-$100K gifts.
  • Some experience calling and/or meeting with 10+ donors per month.
  • Some portfolio management experience with high net wealth prospects.
  • Some familiarity with fundraising management software, such as Advance, Salesforce, or Raisers Edge.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with potentially large benefactors, including excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese, given regional focus.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit donors and prospective donors for major gifts of $250K-$2.5M.
  • Solicit 100% of portfolio for Dean’s Circle annual fund gifts of $2,500+.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 120-150 prospects.
  • Travel for in-person meetings with prospective donors as appropriate.
  • Identify and qualify new prospects in major and minor markets (likely in the U.S. Southeast and in Latin America) and move these prospects through the donor engagement process.
  • Articulate the mission, culture, academic programs, and strategic priorities of the school and Institute.
  • Arrange for prospects to meet with appropriate MIT faculty and staff.
  • Help plan and execute cultivation events in conjunction with event planning staff.
  • Maintain strong communications links with various staff and colleagues across MIT (including Annual Fund, Strategic Alumni Engagement, MIT Resource Development) to ensure a coordinated approach to prospect strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with donor relations team and initiative leaders to maintain a strong stewardship strategy for portfolio donors.
  • Complete timely and constructive contact reports from meetings and deliver timely and effective follow-up to prospects and donors.
