About The Position

The Lead Veterinarian will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of veterinary care, including appointments, surgeries, wound treatment, and dental procedures. This role involves extensive client communication for education on pet care, wellness, illness, and post-operative expectations. The Lead Veterinarian will also manage diagnostic procedures, prepare treatment plans and cost estimates, handle client invoicing, and resolve customer complaints. Additionally, this position requires supervising staff, including interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management. Inventory management, student externship supervision, and mentoring new veterinarians are also key responsibilities. The Lead Veterinarian will lead the financial performance of the Center, participate in budget meetings, and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. Marketing program participation and brand reputation management are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, or foreign equivalent, and Arizona licensure.
  • Three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Any suitable combination of education, experience and training will be accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all appointments, surgeries, treat and address wounds, perform dental surgeries, including monitoring the administration of anesthesia with the help of the Veterinary Technician (VT) team.
  • Aid in the admission and discharge of patients by communicating with clients through client education, both written and verbal, on all topics related to pet care, including but not limited to proper wound care, wellness protocols, illness, medication dosages and use, and expectations following surgery.
  • Effectively administer proper patient triage protocols based on client and facilities needs and capabilities.
  • During exams, educate clients on wellness, preventative care, diagnostic approaches, treatment options, medications, and surgeries.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing all common diagnostic procedures such as radiographs, ultrasound, clinical pathology, and physical exam.
  • Prepare and present treatment options and estimated costs to clients and ensure proper invoicing of delivered services and products once completed.
  • Work with the Practice Manager and facility team to resolve customer complaints and arrive at appropriate resolutions in a timely and effective manner.
  • Preserve the security and safety of all clients, animals, team members, client information, facility and facility equipment by monitoring and correcting any unsafe conditions within the capabilities available.
  • Oversee interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training and supervision of staff members and ensure their understanding of the job responsibilities.
  • Supervise inventory management of office supplies, facility supplies, and medical supplies to assure adequate levels of inventory for current and anticipated needs.
  • Lead continuous staff development through professional and clinical training, timely performance, and salary reviews, completing disciplinary actions, up to and including termination.
  • Manage Student Externships, up to and including, supervision and facilitation of hands-on experiences.
  • Engage with and mentor all new graduate Associate Veterinarians.
  • Lead the overall financial performance of the Center and participate in budget meetings along with the Practice Manager (PM) and the Home Office (HO) team to review financial performance, metrics, and trends.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with regulatory agencies, including, but not limited to: OSHA, DEA, Radiology and Municipal Assist Home Office (HO) by complying and participating in all marketing programs and campaigns, adhering to marketing brand standards, identify new areas of marketing opportunities by submitting plans to the Home Office (HO) team and ensuring quality control of all current marketing programs; this includes the management of brand reputation by monitoring online reviews and the facility social pages.
