University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine
•$22 - $22•Onsite

About The Position

Under the direction of the Supervisor for Middleman Center Operations, the SA-D (Lead Tech, Mailroom) coordinates the day-to-day operations of the PSOM’s mail receiving and distribution function. The position coordinates with Distribution Services Supervisors and Sr Coordinator in training the Building Services Assistants (“BSA”) in the Mailroom function. Under the Distribution Services Supervisor, works in conjunction with Receiving Lead Tech. Using the automated package-tracking system, the Lead Tech operates, reconciles, and reports on the volumes and statuses of Mailroom throughput. The Lead Tech oversees BSA’s proper use of the automated tracking system, cognizant of maintaining data integrity and ensuring proper collection of, and reporting on, barcode and other mail/package data. Assures that members of the Perelman School of Medicine community receive the highest quality services from the Distribution Services group within Space Planning & Operations. This is a working Lead Technician Position, and Lead Tech may be required to cover staff shortages in Receiving and Event-Support areas. The job requires walking, standing, use of standard tools, lifting, and moving of often-delicate equipment weighing between 100-500 pounds. The job requires the ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted. The Lead Tech must be physically able to perform all functions of this position. This position is considered “essential.” The Perelman School of Medicine is a multi-building research and teaching complex with emphasis on biomedical research. As such, and to ensure successful fulfillment of its mission (research and education), the School Community requires a much higher level of support service delivery than usually experienced in a typical academic environment. Problems that would be mere annoyances in some facilities have the potential of destroying thousands of dollars and months or years of often-irreplaceable work. The Department of Space Planning & Operations is responsible for coordinating and assuring uninterrupted delivery of the necessary utility and other support services. All employees of the Space Planning & Operations department are considered to be “essential.”
