About The Position

The Langan School, a program of the Center for Disability Services, is a private, non-profit school for students with severe disabilities between the ages of 5 and 21. This is a 10-month program with a mandatory six-week summer program. The Lead Teaching Assistant contributes to the mission of the Center for Disability Services and Children's Services division by taking a lead role in assisting the teacher and therapists with carrying out activities designed to address goals as outlined in the students’ Individualized Educational Programs (IEP’s). The duties may include, but are not limited to; leading a classroom in the teacher’s absence, entering IEP Direct data, daily classroom preparation, as well as all other Teaching Assistant responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current New York State Teaching Assistant Certification
  • At least 2 years of job related experience, specifically in working with children or individuals with disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher with activities designed to address student’s needs as outlined on their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Duties may include preparing classroom materials, direct instruction of students, and custodial care of students.
  • Leading a classroom in the teacher’s absence.
  • Entering IEP Direct data.
  • Daily classroom preparation.
  • All other Teaching Assistant responsibilities.
