About The Position

The Lead Teacher will assist the Great Achievers Supervisor by providing educational programming for the 21st Century Community Learning Center (Great Achievers program). This role involves planning and implementing lesson plans, training and overseeing Teacher's Aides, managing student behavior, monitoring student progress, and maintaining positive relationships with community partners. The Lead Teacher will also be responsible for overseeing classroom supplies and equipment, assisting with afterschool snacks according to USDA and CACFP guidelines, and attending required trainings and meetings. This is a part-time, temporary position funded by a grant through the Indiana Department of Education, focused on increasing the math and language arts skills of children in first through fifth grade.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in a leadership capacity
  • Adaptability: Willing to take on new challenges and responsibilities and lead others; open to change and variety within the workplace; work hard to implement change in areas of responsibility; recommend changes to improve processes and customer service
  • Attention to Detail: Able to focus on small aspects of a task to ensure accuracy and thoroughness

  • Image: Portray a positive image of the Library; be a strong public ambassador and promote Library programs, materials and services

  • Technical: Comfortable in using computers, appropriate software, and job-related equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Hours toward degree in education or a related field
  • Experience in lesson planning
  • Understanding of learning styles for children at risk
  • Knowledge of acceptable and effective behavior management techniques

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, write and implement lesson plans for classroom based on curriculum developed by Great Achievers Supervisor and in accordance with Indiana Afterschool standards
  • Train and oversee assigned classroom Teacher’s Aides
  • Manage student behavior and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Monitor, develop, and submit appropriate documentation and reports on student progress and behavior
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with related community partners (i.e. Southview Elementary staff, etc.)
  • Oversee and maintain classroom supplies and equipment
  • Follow USDA and CACFP meal pattern when providing afterschool snacks
  • Assist Great Achievers Supervisor as required
  • Attend required trainings and meetings
