About The Position

Horizon Education Centers is seeking enthusiastic educators to join their school-age staff and create a safe, supportive environment for children to grow outside of school hours. For over 46 years, Horizon has been dedicated to providing high-quality care and education for children aged 6 weeks to 14 years. Their mission is to offer high-quality early childhood education, care, and youth development programs across various communities in Cleveland, Elyria, Lorain, North Olmsted, Berea, Parma, and Lakewood.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in a school-age setting.
Must be able to adapt quickly to changing environments and assignments.
Must be prompt and reliable.
Must possess a genuine love of children.
Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs.
Must be able to pass background checks and physical/medical screening.

Nice To Haves

Degree or willingness to obtain a School Age Endorsement through the state.
Experience in a classroom setting and with school-age children.
Willingness to update job knowledge with required training, DCY licensing rules, SUTQ professional development opportunities, and industry trends.

Responsibilities

Provide homework assistance in one-on-one and small group settings, checking work for completion.
Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans for classroom activities and clubs.
Ensure the care and supervision of children and manage the classroom at all times in accordance with licensing standards and best practices.
Work independently with a group of children and collaboratively as a team leader with other teachers, leads, center staff, and the director.
Build positive relationships with children, families, and other staff through prompt and accurate responses, a cheerful and professional attitude, and a problem-solving spirit.
Manage a fun and engaging classroom environment.
Complete and document services provided, such as progress reports, attendance screenings, and assessments.
Provide functional classroom support and assist with meal service.
May be required to assist with center transportation plans.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality with personnel and family information.
Perform other duties as needed/assigned.
