About The Position

Horizon Education Centers is seeking enthusiastic educators to join their school-age staff and create a safe, supportive environment for children to grow outside of school hours. For over 46 years, Horizon has been dedicated to providing high-quality care and education for children aged 6 weeks to 14 years. Their mission is to offer high-quality early childhood education, care, and youth development programs across various communities in Cleveland, Elyria, Lorain, North Olmsted, Berea, Parma, and Lakewood.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a school-age setting.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to changing environments and assignments.
  • Must be prompt and reliable.
  • Must possess a genuine love of children.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to pass background checks and physical/medical screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or willingness to obtain a School Age Endorsement through the state.
  • Experience in a classroom setting and with school-age children.
  • Willingness to update job knowledge with required training, DCY licensing rules, SUTQ professional development opportunities, and industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide homework assistance in one-on-one and small group settings, checking work for completion.
  • Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans for classroom activities and clubs.
  • Ensure the care and supervision of children and manage the classroom at all times in accordance with licensing standards and best practices.
  • Work independently with a group of children and collaboratively as a team leader with other teachers, leads, center staff, and the director.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and other staff through prompt and accurate responses, a cheerful and professional attitude, and a problem-solving spirit.
  • Manage a fun and engaging classroom environment.
  • Complete and document services provided, such as progress reports, attendance screenings, and assessments.
  • Provide functional classroom support and assist with meal service.
  • May be required to assist with center transportation plans.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality with personnel and family information.
  • Perform other duties as needed/assigned.
